About Us

The Pelham is enriching lives in real and diverse ways.

We are a Christian Charity that benefits the community as a provider and host of activities, projects, and effective partnership working.

We do this through the running our victorian hotel as a community hub, with over 60 partner organisations, through our volunteer-led Coffee Lounge, our Counselling Service, youth work and our RunningSpace Suicide prevention project. Each week we see 500 people engage with our work by coming through the doors of The Pelham.

A Short

History of
The Pelham

The new chapter of life at The Pelham began when Sidley Baptist Church began dreaming of buying The Pelham Hotel to help transform the local community, through a welcoming space and practical help. As a church, over £400,000 was raised in donations to buy the freehold for the building in its entirety for under £250,000 back in 2012, originally under the banner of ‘Pelham Trust’. In August 2014 ‘The Pelham CIO’ was formed to launch the charity, and in January 2015 we opened the doors for the first time as a Community Hub & Coffee Lounge. Over the decade, we have completed 5 phases of capital development and now have three floors fully refurbished for community use. We have plans and funding for the top floor, as well as expanding our charitable activities further afield.

Built to last

The Pelham Hotel was originally built in 1900 and opened in 1901, and comprised 8,000 sq. feet over three floors and a basement. It originally built across the road from Sidley Train Station and was a good family pub for many decades before becoming more a notorious pub in its latter years, before closing in 2009. The Pelham charity has owned the building since January 2012 and has been redeeming it ever since!
