Between 2021- 2023 The Pelham Building Enterprises was launched to provide a construction, building and maintenance enterprise for intermediate employment opportunities for local young people. The on-the-job training was centred around The Pelham premises, with the trainees gaining practical experience and confidence under the support and guidance of a team of builders and supervisors.
During the success of the training programme, The Pelham Building Enterprises Ltd was launched as a social enterprise. Over the last 18 months a range of work has been completed but now the focus is on allotments, including a small works contract with Bexhill Town Contract. This provides an employment pathway for some of our volunteers and also another revenue stream for the organisation.
As part of this scheme, The Pelham is the local agent for delivering the Local Employment and Skills Plans (LESPs) as part of the section 106 agreement between building developers in Bexhill and the Local Authority, Rother District Council. We are currently working with Barratt David Wilson at the Rosewood Park site, and Bovis Homes at The Gateway.

Included in the work is construction site visits, school trips, jobs fairs, health and safety training and work experience placement on the construction sites.
