Beating Cancer

Steve was diagnosed with cancer of the throat 2 years ago and shares that he lost himself, he lost his self esteem, and became a recluse. He came to The Pelham for coffee with his family, and saw how smiley and happy the RunningSpace groups were.

One day he decided to try it out, very cautiously. He was worried about how his body would look after being wasted by cancer, and he expected the running to be a serious affair.

He was totally surprised that far from being serious, he found so much laughter in the groups. He walked the Hastings Half Marathon in 2019, but has since become strong enough to run.

He began to feel himself again, and nowadays spends most of his RunningSpace time encouraging and joking around with other runners, keeping a special eye on those who feel more vulnerable.  Steve was also a member of the original church who had the vision to start The Pelham project back in 2010.
